Laurie is metalsmith from Miami, Florida USA, now working exclusively in metal clay.

"The pendant for this first piece was constructed in three sections: bail, medallion and bottom half section. I made a mold of the figures for my centerpiece and with metal clay formed the medallion. I attached the bottom section next and when dry, added the bail and lab Ruby. I made several metal clay tube beads to finish off the necklace. After firing, I added 24kt gold Keumboo to the medallion and epoxy resin color to the rest of the pendant. I used Liver of Sulfur to bring out the texture."

"I love making hinged boxes and wanted to see how small I could go. After constructing a small box with bone-dry metal clay parts, I added an amethyst CZ to the top and then the hinge. I was experimenting with a different way of making the hinge, which came out larger then I wished. After firing the box and ring shank separately, I attached the box to the ring shank and refired. After adjusting the hinge pin and finishing the catch, I applied Liver of Sulfur, to give it color. I like my boxes to have added interest in the inside, so with epoxy resin I embedded a small flower to the inside top section of the box. "
