Keeping your clay moist and useable
There are hundreds of suggestions around on how to keep your clay moist once open, some work, some are not so good.
Speaking from experience I have found my personal IDEAL solutions to this problem.
The basic principal to keeping your clay in a useable format is keeping it moist and air tight. With this is mind on a recent trip to an art shop I found a GREAT product which suits me down to a Tee.
The product? A metal double dipper with lid and clip (see attached pic) I think it is used for watercolour painting?!
I had some clay which was 100% rock-solid, completely dried out and pretty unusable, the solution? I cut a piece of (natural) sponge, small enough to place into the dipper pot, spritz with water. Then I placed my clay lumps in the pot, screwed on the lid and the next time I came to use it – voila!! It was moistened and malleable once again!
The versatility of the product allowed me, not only to re-charge my supplies, but its small enough to fit in my pocket, air tight, light, water tight and roomy plus it also enables me to ‘clip’ it to my table whilst using to hold it still, and the double chamber enabled me to fit one compartment with slip, and one with lump clay.
A FANTASTIC BUY!!!
