Rolling coils from Metal clay
Rolling Coils
Quick Tip - Well moistened, fresh clay is best for use
While in the wrap from the packet, manipulate your lump into a sausage shape to start the process ‘rolling’
Place an clear flat piece of acrylic, acrylic roller, or block (like you get with rubber stamps) onto the clay and roll backwards and forwards.
You need to be careful that you have a uniform roll...
Your sausage should start to become longer and thinner – if not press harder
To create a taper at one end press down slightly firmer on one end of the acrylic than the other as you roll
if you want a taper in both ends, work each side one after the other in the same way)
Once you have the desired length and width/taper brush over your length of clay with water and then you are ready to manipulate the shape.
Gently coax the length into place using a small wet paintbrush to ‘push’ the piece.

NB – if you bend the piece too quickly you will see cracks appear!
